AbstrakABSTRAK INDONESIA : Tidak ada ABSTRAK INGGRIS : MUHAMMAD DEDY. The role of agricultural sector on economic growth in Indonesia. Under direction of DEDY BUDIMAN HAKIM and DJONI HARTONO. The policy of economic development in the fourth five years planning (Repelita IV) was designed to increase the role of industrial sector in Indonesia, instead of agricultural sector. The policy has led the structural transformation, but not followed by labor transformation. The industrial sector in Indonesia was vurnable by crisis attact, especially by economic crisis in 1997/1998. This fact realized the government to revitalize agricultural sector as a driven growth in Indonesia. But this programme faced the implementation of local government autonomy where each local government has the autonomy to manage its local policy of economic development. The aim of the study are (1) to analyze the role of agricultural sector on growth in Indonesia and (2) to analyze the role of agricultural sector on the performance of both industrial and service sector. This research utilize regression of panel data and structural vector autoregression (SVAR) model. The model used Letwis (1954) theorem as restriction of SVAR, this restriction is to prove the relevance of the theorem on the Indonesian economy. The result showed that agricultural sector had positive role on growth and influence the performance of other sectors. The integrated development amongst sector in Indonesia will increase growth effectively. The improvement of industrial and services sectors depend on the input of agricultural sector. However, this study also found that the role of agricultural sector was very low relatively to other sectors. This finding denoted that Letwis theorem is not relevance in Indonesia. Keyword: The role of agricultural sector, revitalization of agricultural sector, growth, data panel analysis, SVAR, Letwis theorem.
